The scariest character in Paranormal Activity. Well, I gave into the hype, and I saw it when it released in all theaters in 2009, excited to be scared.
#GUY GOES CRAZY AND SHOOTS MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEEN MOVIE MOVIE#
I've heard so many good things about how this movie will creep you out and keep you awake for weeks on end. I'm sorry to tell everyone this, but it really shouldn't surprise you: I really, really dislike Paranormal Activity. Year of Release: 2007 (Mass Release in 2009) Starring: Katie Featherstone, Micah Sloat Now to a little known, totally obscure found footage movie called-ĭirected (Produced, and Written) By: Oren Peli Overall, I had a good time with this movie and I'll definitely rewatch it to see what else I can find. Sure the cinematography is kind of crappy quality but that's part of the appeal: it is a movie filmed entirely in first-person. is not only a great horror movie but a great movie in general. If you are a little squeamish and get attached to characters quickly. From narrow staircases and hallways to small, cramped rooms, there are multiple opportunities for the first-person perspective to be played in the best way possible: in pants-crapping horror.Īgain, if you love horror movies in any way, go watch , you will not be disappointed. The movie has other elements of horror besides a decent amount of blood and zombies: since the contagion breaks out in a small apartment building, there are lots of shots that inspire a sense of claustrophobia. Even though some of the characters only get about 5 minutes of screen time they certainly make the most of it and put them into relatable categories. The classic zombie virus/contagion is put into a new perspective that I have never seen and I think is absolute genius.īesides a smart and strong plot, the movie also incorporates everyone trapped inside the apartment and gets them involved, allowing for several layered personalities and interesting characters. Again, takes tired, recycled plots and pushes them in entirely new directions.
This movie does not shy away from breaking the norm and trying to disturb you. It has something for everyone: blood, zombies, excellent acting (even though it's all in Spanish, so try finding an English version), strong plot, terrifying monsters-whatever horror trope you're into, probably has it. You will be scared and this movie will stick with you. I don't want to spoil anything from this film for a lot of reasons, but I'll let you know now: if you're a horror movie fan, and you've never seen, go watch it. I'll keep it out of this review for spoiler reasons, but I'll give to another trope: think Exorcist. Push comes to shove, it's a classic zombie outbreak scenario with a little something extra thrown in. Turns out that the old woman was bitten by something, that makes her suuuuuuper crazy and she starts spreading it to other people. Well things can't get any worse, right guys? An old lady is shot, a Colombian girl dies, and a police man is thrown down a staircase and lands on his face. meanders around for maybe 15 minutes before things really start kicking off. Obvious Spoiler: Everything is not alright.
They get an emergency call from an apartment building in Barcelona, and when the fire department goes to make sure everything is alright they tag along. While lots of Ame ri can horror movies have been "Hollywoodized" and don't offer the scares that are so highly promised, (which if you couldn't tell from the name's of people involved was filmed in Spain) breaks boundaries on tired, recycled genres and spins horror movie tropes on its head.īasic story: Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco) and her cameraman, Pablo (Pablo Rosso) are covering a fire stations night shift for a late-night documentary show. Starring: Manuela Velasco, Pablo Rosso, Ferran Terraza That being said, we tackled two of the most famous and acclaimed ones-with mixed results.ĭirected By: Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza While found footages are not my forte, and also not very fun to write about, it would be preposterous if we didn't try to watch a couple found footage films this year.
